Using your Bag Charm to it's Full Potential - Part 1 The Basics
Your new bag charm contains an NFC tag - this is a safe and simple way of creating a digital business card or shortcuts on your mobile device. There are so many possibilities and applications available but here are some instructions to get you started -
How to Use Your NFC Tag
NFC (Near Field Communication) tags allow you to quickly access digital content or actions with a tap of your phone. No apps required for basic reading just tap and go.
How to Read an NFC Tag
Important: Make sure your phone is unlocked and the screen is on.
iPhone XR, XS, 11 and later models have built-in background NFC scanning. For iPhone 7/8/X, you’ll need a third-party app like “NFC Tools” or “NFC TagReader.”
iPhone (iOS 13 and later)
- Hold the top of your iPhone (near the camera) over the NFC tag.
- A notification will pop up automatically on your screen.
- Tap the notification to open the linked page or action.
Android
- Make sure NFC is turned on. Go to Settings > Connections > NFC and contactless payments and switch it on.
- Hold the back of your phone against the NFC tag. (The exact spot varies—usually near the centre or top back.)
- A link or action should appear instantly. Tap it to proceed.
If nothing happens, your model may need an app like “NFC Tools” or “NFC Reader.”
How to Write Information to an NFC Tag
Want to customise your tag? Use the free “NFC Tools” app (available on iOS and Android).
Step-by-Step Using NFC Tools
1. Download the App
Search for “NFC Tools” in your app store and install it.
2. Open the App
Launch the app and tap on the “Write” tab.
3. Choose What to Write
- Tap “Add a record”
- Select the type of action or data:
- URL or website
- Text
- Phone number

- Custom app launch, and more
4. Write to Tag
- Once your record is added, tap “Write”
- Hold your phone over the NFC tag until it confirms writing is complete (takes a second or two)
5. Test It
Tap your phone to the tag again to check that it works.
Note:
Most NFC tags can be rewritten, but some are locked after writing. Always double-check your settings.
Using NFC as a Digital Business Card?
If you want to use your NFC tag as a business card, make sure you link it to a URL or webpage. This ensures it works across all devices—not just your own phone.
